    Alta Ski Area is located in the heart of Utah's Wasatch Mountains at the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon, The drive from Salt Lake International Airport is 32 miles or approximately 45 minutes with normal flowing traffic.     Vacation Planning FAQS

    To make your ski trip to Alta as seamless as possible, here are answers to our skiers' most frequently asked questions.

    There are a variety of lodging options, including base lodges, condos and vacation homes within walking or skiing distance of the ski area. There is also lodging at nearby Snowbird as well as in the Salt Lake Valley.

    Salt Lake International Airport (SLC) is the closest airport, conveniently located 32 miles away. Travel time from the airport to Alta is approximately 45 minutes under ideal road conditions.

    We have parking lots at the Wildcat Base and Albion Base. If you have beginner skiers in your group or need daycare or ski school services, we recommend the Albion Base parking lot. Intermediate skiers and advanced skiers are encouraged to park in the Wildcat Base parking lot. All lifts and runs can be accessed from either parking lot. Insider tip - intermediate & advanced skiers wanting to get to the Sugarloaf or Supreme lifts can use the Wildcat Base parking lot and ride Collins lift. It's quicker and more fun.

    Paid parking reservations are required at Alta Friday–Sunday & holidays. 

    The lodging facilities in Alta are not owned or operated by the Alta Ski Area.

    State law requires you have snow tires on your vehicle or carry chains in your vehicle between November 1 and May 1. At times the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) may restrict travel on the canyon road, State Highway 210, to snow tires, chains, 4 wheel drive only.
