Seasons Greetings lights at Alta Ski Area on a snowy December morning

Season's Greetings

By Alta Ski Area 12-16-2024

Making the most of the holidays at alta.

It’s been a pretty good start to the 2024–25 season at Alta Ski Area. As we enter the holiday season, we have received 106 inches of season-to-date snowfall. The most recent round of winter weather has allowed Alta Ski Patrol to open additional terrain and we now have four lifts carrying skiers to over 70 open runs.

We welcome the many families returning to Alta for the holidays. For 87 winters, our mountain has drawn families and friends together during the most wonderful time of the year. The snow and conditions vary from year to year, but the tradition remains the same—returning to Alta to enjoy time on the mountain. This holiday season, make the most of your time at Alta and catch up with our latest holiday events, conditions updates and parking and transportation tips.

Sunnyside, Sugarloaf, Collins and Wildcat are all open—providing access to over 70 open runs for all ability levels. Please keep in mind that we are still skiing on an early-season snowpack with a 35-inch base and limited groomed terrain. Stay tuned to our Lift and Terrain Status page for daily grooming and off-piste updates.

Please remember to slow down on the mountain—we have a full season ahead of us.

Some Tips for Enjoying Early-Season Skiing

  1. Slow down—Alta Ski Patrol will be doing speed checks around the mountain
  2. Be kind to your fellow skiers—we’re all still trying to build up our ski legs and working off early-season rust
  3. Limited groomed terrain available—ski in smaller groups in the main groomed corridors
  4. Expect low-snow conditions—hazards exist
  5. Only stop where you can be seen from above—including rollovers and behind snowguns
  6. Look uphill before merging into a groomed run
  7. Take it easy out there—there’s still plenty of season left to ski

Safety & Awareness Tips >

As we head into the busy holiday season, we’ll share some tips on how to make the most of your time, both on and off the snow, at Alta.

Holiday Trip Planning Tips.

Holiday Parking Reservations

During the holidays, parking reservations are required to park at Alta from 8am–1pm daily between Friday, December 20th and Monday, January 5th. These reservations help us manage the ski experience by limiting the number of skiers to available terrain and lift capacity. We release additional parking reservations on Sundays at 3pm for the upcoming week.

If you are unable to make a reservation, please carpool with someone who has a reservation or plan to ski after 1pm when reservations are no longer required.
