Donate your new or used goggles to healthcare workers on the frontlines.

As we have all been hanging out at home, practicing social distancing and perusing social media, you may have come across some feel-good stories about groups or individuals stepping up to help in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

GogglesForDocs.com

One of those feel-good stories comes from an unlikely source—the ski industry. In particular, one person in Massachusetts who decided one morning to donate his old goggles to a doctor friend that had mentioned a lack of protective eyewear for frontline staff. The one pair of goggles turned into several pairs of goggles at a few medical facilities. A few days later, GogglesForDocs.com and Goggles For Docs Facebook Page were up-and-running, connecting goggles to hospitals in need across New England.

Fast forward a week, and Goggles For Docs is a legitimate grassroots movement encouraging skiers and ski industry corporations to donate new and used ski goggles to hospitals across the country. At last check, Goggles For Docs has organized the delivery of nearly 20,000 goggles to 32 states (and Puerto Rico). The movement is expected to go international within a few days.

The Goggles For Docs program has been a huge hit in the skiing community. Local ski area Brighton and Deer Valley have donated goggles. Goggle manufacturers Smith, Giro, Julbo and Anon have donated thousands of pairs as the story has garnered national attention via Powder Magazine, the Seattle Times, the Boston Globe and the New York Times.

Because every little bit helps, this week, Alta recently donated 38 pairs of goggles to the LA County Hospitals in California. This area has been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic and could be reached in a couple of days via UPS. The shipment consisted of new goggles from the Alta Ski Shop and used goggles from the Alta Ski Area lost and found that had been disinfected, placed in ziplock bags, ready to be shipped off to doctors on the frontlines of the battle against COVID-19. We will continue to look for more opportunities to donate goggles from Alta- and lodge-owned ski shops in the coming days.

You can get involved, just follow these four easy steps:

  1. Find some old goggles
  2. Disinfect them and place them in a Ziplock bag
  3. Find a medical facility in need on GogglesForDocs.com and register your donated goggles on a spreadsheet
  4. Send the goggles via UPS/USPS or take them to a local drop-off location
