Due to regulatory oversight.
The April 21st closing day festivities under the Wildcat lift and entrance to Alf’s High Rustler have been postponed indefinitely. Concerns include skier safety, watershed contamination, expanded carbon footprint and additional snowpack consolidation due to prolonged periods of skier/snow impact in Little Cottonwood Canyon.
Loitering of any kind in these designated areas will be strictly regulated on both April 21 and April 28, 2019. Violators will be subject to suspended skiing privileges for the remainder of the 2018-19 season, pending a one week grace period for appeals.
Additional spring skiing regulations at Alta:
- With spring conditions in the forecast, equipment restrictions will be put into place and strictly enforced. Alpine skis are required to be greater than 85mm underfoot and less than 195cm in length. Equipment must also have a manufacturing date subsequent to 2001. Snowblades will be confiscated.
- Due to concerns regarding skier safety, costumes of any kind will not be permitted on Wildcat or Collins lifts.
- Snowboards are still not permitted.
- Due to concerns related to the watershed and our fragile snowpack, glitter of any color will be outlawed
- Outdoor grilling devices will be banned due to contributions to greenhouse gasses in Little Cottonwood Canyon (please relocate outdoor grills to the top of Big Cottonwood Canyon).
- Finally, processed meats are strictly forbidden.
