Job Description

Responsibilities and Duties

This is a seasonal, full-time position (40 hours per week), working Monday–Thursday and some weekends. A typical work day is 7am–5pm. Much of the work will be outdoors in varying weather conditions for extended hours. This position anticipates the workload to be about 70% conservation field work, 20% general maintenance and 10% public outreach and stewardship.

This is a hands-on, experiential learning opportunity with a variety of duties that will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Plant native plant and tree species in various rugged terrain
  • Maintain native plant nursery and restoration planting
  • Identify and remove invasive and non-native plants
  • Hike intermediate hiking trails and positively interact with recreationists
  • Distribute public information and provide interpretive outreach
  • Lead and promote the safety of volunteers and school groups on stewardship events
  • Work interdependently and take initiative within our conservation goals
  • Work in a small team setting and communicate with other departments

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to walk long distances off-trail and at high elevation for multiple hours
  • Ability to self-manage and motivate
  • Applicant must be self-disciplined, work hard, and maintain a pleasant attitude
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must be 21 years or older
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • U.S. Citizenship or legal resident status
  • Employment is conditional upon a background and physical screening

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree in or have a bachelor’s in environmental science, botany, conservation management, or equivalent
  • Native plant identification and/or taxonomy experience
  • Experience working efficiently in a small team setting
  • Experience working in the field for extended hours
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience driving off-road with 4x4 trucks and all-terrain vehicles
  • Prior practice working with the public, in customer service (e.g. hospitality, environmental education, etc)

Work Period

  • 40 hours per week, tentatively Monday–Thursday and some weekend
  • Starting June 16th and continuing through October
